The end of legend

I think it is the right time to say good bye to the legend car, it was started since1992 but the end has come for the hummer brand,  GM decide to transfer a military car to a civilian car , GM bought the Hummer model in 1999, but sales fell sharply with the image degradation of the army and the decline in car use heavy fuel consumption. The car that represents the magnitude and excessive consumption of gasoline, the car that attracted celebrities and off-road enthusiasts, as well as the wrath of fans of the environment.

The story start when General Motors has decided to cease production of Hummer H1 car, the Hummer H1 which is similar in its design Humvee jeep used by the U.S. military. Consistently and conservationists t protest against the pocket because of the high rates of consumption of fuel.
GM said that the rise in fuel prices has nothing to do decision to halt production of pocket because this issue is rarely of concern to people who buy Hummers. And will continue to produce military model of the jeep, Indiana plant in the U.S. as the company will continue manufacturing Alcklitin H2 and H3.

By 2010 the Company decides officially to stop making hummer cars at all for GM’s U.S. car production Hummer after the collapse of takeover by the Chinese.  GM did not give reasons for the collapse of the attempt to sell the model to Tndzong Chinese Company, but the news said that Beijing has refused to approve the completion of the deal. The U.S. Company decided to sell Hummer production before two years ago with the disposal of a number of models produced by and request protection from creditors as a prelude to bankruptcy. The company expressed disappointment with the deal because the Chinese did not take place.

“John Smith said, vice president of the company: General Motors will work with staff in the production of Hummer dealers, and suppliers of plant to end the work in an organized and responsible“.
The company said it will continue to adhere to the owners of the car security around the world and provide service and spare parts.

The life cycle of producing hummer car went away quietly and quickly, it was an attractive car to the gulf consumer which is a huge menacing vehicle. And fit the G.M image of always having the biggest and the best brands, which was special and unique car and had attracted most of the celebrity to have a hummer. But after the new model of range rover and BMW X5, those car start to attract the people whose is looking for a luxury car. And the time has come to stop producing hummer car; the hummer car will be always in our memory and continue as an American iconic symbol.

here my question is do you think G.M will think to reproduce hummer car in the near future? And what was the real reason to stop producing it? Do you see the civilian hummer brand was a victim of the recession rather than gasoline prices?

  1. I think HUMMER’s days have come and gone due to the recession. I do agree that customers could afford the gas, but it was not in vogue to drive a gas guzzler for show whie many people were being laid off. Also, GM diluted the brand by mass marketing the H2 and then H3 which were more just rebadged GMC/Chevy products. The HUMMER brand stood for excess which may have its time again, but not in the near future.

  2. I don’t think Hummer as a brand ever stood a chance. While people can afford the gas, the simple size of the car made it inconvenient to drive in many ways and most definitely made it an inconvenience to everyone else on the road. Hummers in the US quickly became synonymous with men trying to make up for a certain lack that will go unmentioned. Hummer drivers were viewed as self-entitled and obnoxious almost from the get go. It’s hard to bounce back and build a positive brand image when a large majority of people driving your car are doing so much to upset the rest of humanity.

  3. Daniely599 makes a great point about hummer recycling GMC/Chevy products with the Hummer brand. The mass marketing of the H2 and H3 hurt the image, or “brand”, that Hummer initially created. Within the reference article sited the author even reinforces this claim. Hummer/GM shot themselves in the foot when they tried to become “luxury” vehicles. I think Hummer can return in the future if they just stay true to what made them successful, like the youtube video said, “a wolf in wolf’s clothing”.

  4. I think it is also a marketing move just like the camaro and mustang bring back the Elenor from gone in sixty second. Soon after a while people are going to want something different and bring it back like the beetle and mini cooper. People got tierd of the Hummer just like the Escalde and Navigator we as consumer want something new so sometimes it takes discontinueing things to bring it back when thier is a demand again.

  5. Hummer is a car for a specific byuer, Hummer lover in another words. From my point of view, it can be produced later, because it looks good and some people just like driving it because it is safe. However, no housewives would drive it because it is difficult to handle and it is more men’s car. Rap stars can buy this car because it is stylish. It is just time, that decides if Hummer will be popular or not.
However, there are a lot of similar stories when cars were stoped being produced and a year later company brought to market a new model of it.
Last dodge viper was produced in 2011(or 2010) and in 2012 they showed a new model of it. Mercedes Benz G-class, in 2009 they said that there is a final version of it. In 2012 they brought to market a facelifted G-class and 2 new versions with brand new engines.
Generally speaking, Hummer can be produced again, we just have to wait few more years.

  6. I think recession and gasoline prices are closely related factors that caused lower sales of Hummer cars. As a result, the recession caused loss of jobs or lower income in many cases, therefore, people cannot afford paying for higher gasoline prices so they choose cars that are more economical. I think GM must look for more alternatives to make the car more economical and efficient in order to keep it in demand.

  7. I think there are multiple factors for GM to stop producing hummer, the biggest being that demand for the car died down. When the Hummer was first produced, it wasa status symbol and unlike any car on the road. But that began to wear off when GM made no significant changes to the H2 over the years and made the H3 look nearly identical. This along with high gas prices, followed by the bankruptcy and restructuring led GM to chose only its most profitable brands, Chevy, GMC, Cadillac and Buick. Having one brand make one style of truck does not make much sense for any dealership to sell. I would love to see the Hummer brought back, but I don’t think it happens unless it’s brought back disguised asains another brand such as GMC.

  8. The Hummer brand represented the bubble and its end represents the onslaught of the recession. GM was not ahead of the game and instead only reacted to the stimuli from the market. It’s not about the fact that Hummer was a gas guzzler; it’s about GM not being cognizant of the reality of the market and of its customer.

  9. I originally saw just the picture of the hummers in a line and thought of the paper puppet game i played in class. I thought to myself ” I wonder how many of those have defects”. Then I read the article and I think hummers are kinda cool so they shouldn’t discontinue them. From an operations management standpoint i am sure that GM reformatted the amount of Hummer trucks they produced after the economic downturn.

  10. I hope GM does not reproduce the Hummer in the near future or ever again. It was a cool car for a very short period of time, but I think after the recession, everyone is very price conscious (the price of the car that they are purchasing and the consumption of gas that the car guzzles up). I think the reason why the Hummer was not successful was because it isn’t a luxury car, yet it has the pricetag and the expenses of one. Luxury cars have been around for years and we all know them by name, as well as their superb reputation. These were $50k+ automobiles. If I had that kind of money, I’d rather get a Mercedes-Benz or BMW. I think the Hummer was a victim of the recession: the recession weeded out the people who didn’t have the money to begin with to afford the Hummer, but wanted it because it was the “it” car at the time being. Now that those people are weeded out, we’re left with the individuals who have the money to pay for a luxury car and have better sense than to purchase a Hummer.

  11. Though there is a hype about hummers, I was personally never too fond of hummers. I had an opportunity to drive hummer, and I did not understood why people would spend so much money on that car and for gas. But then again, if someone has money to buy hummer, I don’t think increasing gas prices would be a matter.

The major reason why I think Hummer failed was because of the economical crisis. Many people, from rich to poor got effected by the economy. I believe, people eventually wanted a car that is more realistic and would help them save money into their day to day activities. After GM discontinued hummer, I saw many owners selling their cars for a cheaper price as well.

With that being said, I think Hummer is a great car for places like Gulf countries and its even better in deserts. The feeling of driving hummer in a desert is just amazing. Hummer is sutiable for countries like Bahrain where gas is cheaper than water.

  12. The life cycle of conveying hummer auto left subtly and quickly, it was an engaging auto to the gulf buyer which is a tremendous debilitating vehicle.I think it is likewise a showcasing move.
The 208 peugeot embraces numerous styling properties from the notorious GTi while offering new styling, premium inside, creative innovation and that’s only the tip of the iceberg.
